The Exposition Universelle of 1889 was a World's Fair held in Paris, France from 5 May to 31 October 1889.

It was timed to mark the centenary of the French Revolution (1789–1799). [1]

The main symbol of the Fair was the Eiffel Tower, which was completed in 1889, and served as the entrance arch to the Fair. The tower was constructed of puddled iron, a form of purified wrought iron and was designed by Gustave Eiffel.
