1904 Auto-Cycle Club Trial - September

'The mutual reliability trial in connexion with the Auto-Cycle Club concluded yesterday when the run was from Exeter to Southampton, via Honiton, Axminster, Charmouth, Bridport, and Dorchester, 53 miles ; Bere Regis, Wimborne Minster, Ringwood, to Southampton, a distance 100.75 miles. The riders were J. J. Leonard (using a 2.75 h.p. Lurquin and Coudert), who was the first to arrive in Exeter the previous night at 8.49; Mervyn O'Gorman (3.5 h.p. Ormonde) and H. J. Densham (2.5 h.p. Anglian), who followed a minute later; H. P. Rose (2.5 h.p. Roc), who came at 9.33 p.m;.; and F. W. Applebee (3.25 h.p. Dux), who turned up about 10 p.m. M. Ponder (2.75 h.p. Humber) stayed Chard on Thursday night, and, therefore under the rules, will not be allowed to take a prize, he not having arrived within the maximum time.'[1]
