AUTO-CYCLE CLUB’S-RACE MEETING.[1]

Some 2,000 spectators witnessed the Auto-Cycle Club’s race meeting at the Crystal Palace on Saturday. Despite a fitful wind, times were generally good. Three trophies were under competition - namely, the

  • Automotor Journal Challenge Cup (one mile, flying start, time trials for machines weighing not more than 170lb, fitted with engines not exceeding 76 by 76 mm;);
  • Motor Car Journal Challenge Cup (five miles handicap, with similar restrictions as to machines and engines); and
  • Motor Cycle Challenge Cup (one hour scratch race for machines weighing not more than 114lb. fitted with engines not exceeding 70 by 70 mm).

The first trophy fell to H. V. Colver, in lmin. llsec.r as against C. R. Collier’s winning time last year of lmin. 15sec.; the second to W. Hodgkinson, and the third to Reve Thomas, winner of the French Tier de Litre trials, who did 45 miles 146 yards, as against J. F. Crundall’s winning distance in 1904 of 42 miles 1,390 yards.

Five Miles Handicap.— MotorCar Journal Challenge Cup.— Final Heat.— W. Hodgkinson, J.A.P., 7secl start, 1; Reve Thomas, Alcyon, scratch, 2; W. W. Genn, Minerva, 7seo., 3 ; C. R. Collier (holder), Matchless, scratch, 4. Collier rapidly overhauled all but Hodgkinson, who won by 300 yards, Genn being twice that distance behind the Frenchman. Time, 6min. 9 3-5seo.

One Hour Scratch Race.— Motor Cycle Challenge Cup.— Reve Thomas, Alcyon, 45 miles 146 yards, 1; J. F. Crundall (holder), Humber, 41 miles 1,376 yards, 2; H. V. Colver, Matchless, 40 miles 400 yards, 3. Thomas, who led from tho start, covered 20 miles in 26min. 45 2-5sec^ 22J miles in tho first half hour, and 40 miles in 53min. 17 3-5seo.

G. A. Barnes v. Time.— On a 4-h.p. Barnes racing bicycle this rider covered one mile in lmin, 8 4-5sec, and two miles in 2min. 18 l-5sec.
