1908. The Motor Union. [2]

Several commercial motor cases have been supported in the courts during the past two years with grants from the Legal and Legislative Defence Fund raised by the Motor Union.

Grants of £5 each were recently made by the Union and the Motor Union Insurance Co towards the defence of a threatened action against a member of the Commercial Motor Users' Association by a tramways company.

In July last the Motor Union contributed 10 guineas towards the cost of a High Court appeal by a member of the Bradford A.C. against a conviction for having driven past a tramcar on a side of the road which is a contravention of Article 4 of the Motor Cars Use and Construction Order, 1904. The appeal is expected to be reached this term.

A London medical member of the Motor Union has complained of a habit among cabmen of trying to "squeeze" motorcars into difficulties. If supplied with the names and addresses of these drivers, of persons who have obstructed in other ways, or of individuals who have thrown stones, the Union undertakes prosecutions in the event of apologies not being forthcoming.
