The distances over which Hornsted was timed were the standing start kilometre and the standing start half mile. Running the normal way of the track, be covered the kilometre in 29.62 sec., and travelling the reverse way he did 31.19 sec. Over the half-mile Hornsted did 25.49 sec. in the normal direction and 25.60 sec. to the opposite direction, a mean of 25.54 sec., giving a pace of 70.47 miles per hour. Hemery's old record for the standing start half-mile was 25.566 sec., equal to 70.406 miles per hour.'[1]
