HISTORICAL SKETCH.
THIS Company was registered 9th April, 1902, to take over the Metropolitan District Electric Traction Company, Limited, and carried out electrification of the Metropolitan District Railway {see page 204), in which it holds a controlling interest. It also became interested in various tube railway undertakings in London, by virtue of agreements for the construction and equipment of the three sections of the London Electric Railway {see page 202), in which it also holds a controlling interest to-day; while in 1912 a scheme for fusion with the London General Omnibus Company, Limited, was completed. In 1913 offers were made to Shareholders of the Central London {see page 199) and City and South London {see page 200) Railways, and these are now controlled by this Company. In addition, the Company controls the London and Suburban Traction Company, Ltd., through which it controls the Metropolitan Electric Tramways, Ltd., London United Tramways, Ltd.. South Metropolitan Electric Tramways and Lighting Company, Ltd., and Tramways (M.E.T.) Omnibus Company, Ltd. It also controls the Associated Equipment Company. Ltd., Associated Acceptances, Ltd., Union Construction and Finance Company, Ltd., Union Surplus Lands Company, Ltd., Watford and Edgware Rly. Company and controls through the L.G.O.C., Green Line Coaches, Ltd., and London General Country Service, Ltd., and holds interests in the Metropolitan Rly., and North Metropolitan Electric Power Supply Company.
