'Of the 195 cars that started from London (Virginia Water), Exeter and Stratford-on-Avon, 31 dropped out en-route and failed to reach Land’s End. Of the remainder, 69 claimed premier awards, 51 thought they were entitled to silvers, and 37 aspired to bronzes: 7 folk didn’t apply for any award. Of the 7 three-wheelers, 3 retired, 1 claimed a silver and 2 bronzes; the other entrant claimed nothing.'[1]
