Colonel Arthur Edward Downing (c1837-1895)


1895 Died. 'Col. Arthur Edward Downing, retired list, Bengal Army, died 2, Cavendish-road, St. John’s Wood, on the 11th inst. at the age of 58. He entered the Bengal Infantry in 1857 and became a Major in 1876. He did not see active service in the field, being for long employed as executive engineer, third grade, under the Department of Public Works on the Rangoon and Irrawaddy Valley State Railway. He retired Colonel at the end of 1879.'[1]
