1980 James Dyson, for Rotork Appliances, filed a patent on vacuum cleaning appliances.

Dyson bought Jeremy Fry out of Prototypes and set up his own company, the Air Power Vacuum Cleaner Co which very successfully developed the upright dual cyclone vacuum cleaner.

Later became Dyson Ltd
