"Albert Buchanan received his education at Bolton Secondary School and served his apprenticeship, which he began in 1906, with the Bleachers Association.
He remained with that firm until 1914, gaining additional practical experience in the drawing office and also as an assistant engineer. He then obtained a post in H.M. Dockyard in Malta, where he successively filled the the positions of fitter, draughtsman, and chargehand in the gun mounting section during the next six years.
After acting as branch engineer to the Calico Printers Association he became chief engineer to Messrs. Sundown Fabrics, Ltd. with whom he remained until 1938 when he joined the staff of Messrs. Hustler and Son of Morecambe as technical engineer.
His final postion, which he held from 1940, was that of chief engineer to the Yorkshire D. and P. Company, Ltd. Mr Buchanan, whose death occurred on 25th October 1946, in his fifty-seventh year was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1941.
