ALBERT TURNER was for a number of years chairman of Messrs. Turner, Atherton and Company, of Denton and Stockport, makers of every class of machinery for the manufacture of hats. Entering the works of his father, Mr. John Turner, in 1876, he served five years' apprenticeship and spent the next two years in the drawing office. In 1883 he was placed in charge of the fitting and erecting department and in 1886 was appointed works manager, he and his brother having in the meantime, on the death of their father in 1884, taken over the business.
Mr. Albert Turner subsequently became chairman of the company, a position which he filled until a short time before his death, which occurred on 6th November 1941, at the age of seventy-eight, within twenty-four hours of that of his brother, Mr. Henry Herbert Turner, a partner and vice-chairman of the firm. A large part of Mr. Albert Turner's career was spent in the U.S.A. where he established two engineering works as ancillaries to the parent firm.
He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1894.
