Alex Ferguson and Co

From Graces Guide

Scotch whisky distillers, wine and spirit merchants, of 106-108 West Regent Street, Glasgow

1896 Alex Ferguson and Company Limited was formed as a public company, with capital of £110,000, to take over the business carried on by Messrs Alex Ferguson and Co, as Scotch whisky distillers, proprietors, blenders, wine merchants and exporters, Glasgow, and also the heritable properties of Mr Alex Ferguson. No change was intended to be made in the management of the business.[1]

The company operated the Auchentoshan Distillery and were also sole proprietors of the "Breadalbane" and "P. & O." whisky brands.

1901 In January the company informed shareholders of the distressed state of the business. With share capital and debentures amounting to £220,000, the crash was of wide concern in business circles.[2] By July the business was in liquidation and whisky stocks were being auctioned.[3]

1936 The company was finally struck off and dissolved.[4]
