"ALEXANDER KENNEDY, who was born in 1903, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1945. He received his education at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, and served his apprenticeship from 1916 to 1921 with Messrs. James Howden and Company, Ltd., of Glasgow, with whom he remained as a draughtsman for a further four years. After filling similar positions with two other engineering firms for brief periods, in 1927 he joined Messrs. Pegson, Ltd., Coalville, makers of quarry machinery, and was employed in the estimating office. A year later he was appointed sole technical representative for the firm in Scotland, with responsibility for the installation of plant.
He resigned this appointment in 1938, and established the firm of Messrs. Kennedy and Company, Ltd., Glasgow, specialists in the manufacture of quarry machinery. In 1947 he was appointed a director of Messrs. Keir and Cawder, Ltd., Glasgow. Mr. Kennedy continued in business until his death, which occurred on 6th August 1949."
