Mr. Alexander Miller McKechnie died on October 24, 1943, at the age of 77 years. He was Chairman of McKechnie Brothers, Ltd., Metal and Chemical Manufacturers, of Birmingham and Widnes. He with his two brothers founded the works at Widnes in 1891, and later he established the Birmingham works. Under his guidance both works have been greatly extended, extruded brass rods, stampings, and ingots being manufactured at Birmingham and heavy chemicals at Widnes. He was well known and respected in the metal world and was highly esteemed by all his staff and workpeople.

Mr. McKechnie was an Original Member of the Institute.
