1878 Ship name change. '...ALFRED BODLEY, of the city of Exeter, Ironfounder, hereby give notice, that in consequence of the name being quite inappropriate to so small a vessel, together with the circumstance, of her having stranded and having since undergone extensive repairs under the supervision of the surveyors of the Board of Trade, it is my intention to apply to the Board of Trade, under section. 6 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1871, in respect of my ship "Great Extended," of Teignmouth, official number 44,296, of gross tonnage 70-8 tons, of register tonnage 22.73 tons, heretofore owned by William J. Jones, George P. N. Burden, Verdon N. Burden, Henry Hallett, William Dunn, George P. Ward, Henry Blanchford, Alonzo Ward, all of Teignmouth, Robert Slade, of Torquay, James S. Bearne, Lewis Bearne, John Vicary, all of Newton Abbot, John Holman, Henry George Holman, Richard Holman, Alfred Holman, and William Symons, all of Topsham, for permission to change her name to "Pioneer," to be registered under the said new name at the Port of Teignmouth, as owned by Alfred Bodley aforesaid....'[1]
