ALFRED GEORGE HAMILTON had been proprietor of Messrs. Ritchie and Company of Southwark, London, for thirty years and was the inventor of the "Lux Calor" gas-stove of which they were the makers.

He was born in 1861 and educated at Charterhouse. His apprenticeship was served from 1878 to 1883 at the works of Messrs. Bryan Donkin and Company, and he subsequently founded the Quinton Matsys Forge where he carried on the business of mechanical engineer and artificer in wrought iron.

Mr. Hamilton was elected a Member of the Institution in 1916, and his death occurred on 15th October 1930.
