Alfred Rivett was a member of The Cycle Engineers' Institute, and was therefore one of the original members of the Institution of Automobile Engineers when it was established in London in 1906.

During the greater part of his career he was head of a motor repair business in Leytonstone.

He died on 7th January, 1939.
