1941 Died. 'Mr. Alfred Smith Hampton, former divisional electrical and signals superintendent of the London Midland and Scottish Railway Company, died in Glasgow on Friday after a short illness. Mr. Hampton, who resided at Mosshead Road, Burnbrae, Bearsden, was a native of Brechin, Angus. He trained as a draughtsman in the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, and entered the employment of the old Caledonian Railway Company, ultimately rising to the position of chief assistant to the telegraph engineer. On the grouping of the railways he was appointed divisional electrical engineer in Scotland, and in 1929 became divisional electrical and signals superintendent. Widely known in electrical engineering Circles, Mr. Hampton was president of the Scottish centre of the Institution of Electrical Engineers in 1922, and he was also a prominent member of the Institute of Transport and of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers.'[2]
