1842 Born in Brompton, London, son of Alexander Stewart Betts, merchant

c.1860 War Office Telegraphist at Woolwich Arsenal

By 1877 he was Superintendent of the Persian Gulf Cable.[1]

Later at Karachi.

1887 of Clapham Common, member of the Society of Telegraph Engineers and Electricians

1891 Alfred I Betts 48, retired on pension, assistant secretary to engineering company, lived in Clapham with Frances M Betts 42, Catherine F Betts 21, Eleanor A Betts 15, Stewart A Betts 15, Reginald A Betts 4[2]

1901 Alfred S. Betts 58, Retired superintendent of telegraphs, B. W. C. S. (?) of India, lived in Brighton with Catherine F Betts 31 and Reginald A Betts 14[3]

1921 Died in Clapham[4]
