1924 The works of the Algoma Steel Corporation, Limited, were at Sault Ste. Marie, where the Lakes Superior, Michigan and Hulon practically come together. They are conveniently situated with respect to the Canadian territory contiguous to those lakes, and to Western Canada generally.

Like the other Canadian steel companies, the Algoma Steel Corporation was a merger of a number of companies, the most important of which were the Algoma Steel Co, incorporated in 1901, the Lake Superior Iron and Steel Co, incorporated in 1907, the Lake Superior Power Co, and the Algoma Ironworks.
