Alice Burrows
of Halifax?
Textile machinery maker.
An 1836 advertisement for the sale of an estate, which included two mills at Booth Town (used for the spinning of waste silk,) 'with the Steam Engines and Going Geer, respectively moving the same, and all the Spinning and Roving Frames, and other Machinery therein' by order of the Assignees of Mr. George Perkins, a bankrupt. The machinery was itemised, and the following was made by Alice Burrows:-
In the dressing room: one Cutting Engine, made in 1835. Fifteen Dressing Machines, made in 1834. In the card room: Eight Carding Engines, 42 Inches wide, four of them made by Alice Burrows, in 1834. Three Drawing Frames, 18 heads, 3 Rollers each, two of them made by Alice Burrows, in 1834 and 1836. In the spinning room One Jenny, 150 Spindles, by Alice Burrows, in 1835. [1]
