ALICK GEORGE GROUNDWATER was born in Aberdeen in 1870, and was educated at Robert Gordon's College in that city.
At the age of fifteen he was apprenticed to Messrs. A. Pirie and Sons, Stoneywood. Paper Works, Bucksburn, Aberdeen, and soon after its completion in 1891, he became journeyman erector at the works of W. B. Thompson and Co., of Dundee, for a year, when he returned to Messrs. Pirie and Sons as assistant engineer.
Later he was appointed Chief Engineer, having full control of workshops and plant, and since 1916 he was also Engineer Manager of Pirie's Photographic Paper Co., Waterton Works, Bucksburn.
His death took place at Bucksburn on 20th March 1923, at the age of fifty-three, after a short illness.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1902, and a Member in 1922.
