1851 Living at 27 Todd Street, Manchester. Robert Cowburn (age 36 born Manchester), Coach Builder. With his wife Ann Cowburn (age 35 born Lowter, Derbys.). Also Thomas Embleton (age 23 born K?, Cheshire). Two servants.[1]

1851. 'CARRIAGE MANUFACTORY, TODD STREET, Established Thirty Years. ANNE COWBURN (widow and sole executrix of the late Robert Cowburn), in returning her sincere thanks for the extensive and liberal patronage bestowed on her late lamented husband, begs most respectfully to inform the Nobility, Clergy, and Gentry of Manchester and the surrounding districts, that she intends carrying on the above business as usual; and hopes, by strict attention combined with first-rate work and the most moderate charges, merit a continuance of that patronage and support which has been hitherto bestowed on this establishment. A. C. has now made arrangements for finishing gentlemen's carriages of all descriptions in the first-rate London style, and has engaged London foreman for that purpose, who for many years conducted the, business of one of the largest and most respectable coach builder's establishments the kingdom. A variety of New and Second-hand Carriages constantly on sale. Carriages sold commission.'[2]

These hinges, which are completely hid from view, do not break the outline of the body and leather work, as all others do, and entirely effect the removal of the OLD, MOST OBJECTIONABLE, AND NEVER BEFORE REMEDIED NUISANCE of rusty hinges, and dirt at the top of the doors, and they exclude all wet from inside.
