1841 Living at High Street, Southside, Dumbarton (age 16). In house of Isabella Bannatyne (age 35) a Widow and her family. [1]

1849 Alexander started building in a small yard on the north side of the town with his brother Archibald, as Alexander Denny and Brothers

1851 Living at High Street, Dumbarton (age 26 born Dumbarton), Iron Shipbuilder employing 350 men. With Alexander Denny (age 32 born Dumbarton), Iron Shipbuilder employing 350 men. Also niece Christina Connell (age 23). Two servants. [2]
