1914 'Special attention is drawn to the following — The Mercantile and Marine Engineering Company HAS PURCHASED THE WORKS OF THE OLDEST FIRM IN ANTWERP Namely, that Established by the late Mr. Archie Black in 1877.
These works, which are also one of the most important in this city, are thoroughly up to date and perfectly equipped for all kinds of engineering and repairing work, up to any standard and able to undertake the most extensive repairs and renewals which may enter the port.
They have portable electric drilling machines and boring bars to bore out in place cylinders, stern tubes, etc., and the most modern machinery and thoroughly complete plant for welding and cutting of all metals by the oxy-acetylene and oxy-hydric processes. They have been and are still working for the most important shipowning firms in the U.K. and will be pleased to send a list of their clients as reference. '[1]
