Ardsley Mill
in East Ardsley, Morley, Yorkshire
Ardsley Mill was a steam powered worsted spinning mill built in 1912-13. It was built for Thomas Ambler and Sons by Mouchel and Partners or the Yorkshire Hennebique Contracting Co? Extensively glazed, it is a fine example of a textile mill constructed by the very latest (in 1912) reinforced concrete system.
'NEW INDUSTRY FOR ARDSLEY. BRADFORD SPINNERS DECIDE to REMOVE THEIR WORKS.
Messrs. Thomas Ambler and Sons, spinners, Atlas Mills, Bradford, have given notice to-day that they are removing to new mills at Ardsley, near Wakefield. This will be good news for the womenfolk at Ardsley, which for many years has been given up to coal mining and iron works, with practically no employment in the village to which the women could turn.
It would seem, therefore, as if Ardsley, which lies about mid-way between Leeds and Wakefield, is about to be considerably developed. It is on the route of the new trackless car system from Leeds, and the establishment of even one spinning mill will be an event of much importance.
Thereused to be a mill there which employed many women, but for some years it has been closed down.'[1]
