"ASHLEY WILLIAM WARNER was educated at the Perse Grammar School and Christ's College, Cambridge. His first appointment, which he obtained in 1884, was with the Hartlepool Steamship Mutual Insurance Association and subsequently he was employed for a brief period at the Yorkshire Tube Works of Messrs. Crewdson, Hardy and Company, Ltd., Middlesbrough.
In 1887 he joined his uncle in a pickle and sauce business. Four years later he began a long association as manager with Messrs. A. Haacke and Company, engineers' merchants, London. Under his management new branches were opened at Glasgow, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Stockton-on-Tees. Eventually he was in control of the business from the North of Yorkshire to the North of Scotland and Ireland. Mr. Warner, whose death occurred on 10th May 1947, at the age of eighty-two, was elected an Associate of the Institution in 1898 and was transferred to Companionship in 1922."
