AUBREY LLEWELLYN COVENTRY FELL, C.B.E., who died on the 4th October, 1948, was born on the 8th July, 1869. He received his early education at Christ's College, Finchley, and his engineering education at the School of Electrical Engineering, Hanover Square. The first ten years of his apprenticeship and subsequent career were spent with the British Thomson Houston Co. and with Laing, Wharton and Down. From 1898 to 1903 he was in the service of the Sheffield Corporation Tramways, first as Electrical Engineer and later as General Manager. He was then appointed Chief Officer of the London County Council Tramways—the title was changed later to General Manager—and he held this position until 1924, when he was obliged to retire owing to ill-health.

He joined The Institution as an Associate in 1890 and was elected a Member in 1897. He served as Vice-Chairman of the Leeds Local Section 1903-04. At the time of his retirement he was a Member of The Institution of Civil Engineers, of The Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and of the Institute of Transport, and a Past President of the Municipal Tramways Association.
