Auchinblae Distillery Co
1896 The Auchinblae Distillery Company Limited was incorporated as a public company, with capital of £20,000, to purchase the spinning mill at Auchinblae, with dwelling house, water, and other rights, belonging to Alexander Nicol Simpson, manufacturer, and to carry on the business of distillers, maltsters, coopers, bonded warehouse proprietors and merchants.[1] The highly experienced Charles C. Doig of Elgin acted as the consulting engineer and architect on the project and he identified an abundance of available water both for motive power and production. Situated at the entrance to the Glen of Drumtochty, in a barley-growing district and with ready access to peat, the distillery seemed perfectly situated and initial production was expected to be in the region of 40,000 to 50,000 gallons of whisky per annum.[2]
1916 In June the company went into voluntary liquidation.[3]
The distillery was subsequently acquired by Macdonald, Greenlees and Williams (Distillers) Limited, of Leith and was in their ownership as their assets were merged with those of the Distillers Co in 1925.[4]
1932 The buildings were demolished. It appears that, from 1926, there had been a progressive removal of machinery and the premises were used only for storage.[5]
