August Stepan
German aircraft designer.
During WW2 Stepan joined a team to develop Friedrich von Doblhoff's helicopter concept, which used rotor blades with tip jets. Other team members included Theodor Laufer and Alexander Czernin.
After WW2 Stepan and Czernin were employed by the Fairey Aviation Co in Britain to work on the development of the Rotodyne. Stepan returned to Germany in 1963, presumably as a result of the cancellation of the Rotodyne project and the withdrawal of Fairey from the helicopter business. He took over the test activities of Bolckow KG, later MBB.
