Augustus Charles Towers (c1857-1936) of Lewis and Towers

1936 Died. 'We regret to record the death, which took place at his residence. Carylon, Beaconsfield road, Blackheath, on Friday, the 20th inst, at the age of 79 years, of Mr. Augustus Charles Towers, a former member of Richmond Town Council. Mr. Towers, who formerly lived at 182 Kew road, Richmond, was a representative of the North Ward from 1913 to 1923. He and Ald. N. Courlander were great friends, and years ago they joined in walking and fishing holidays in Devon and Cornwall. When he was chairman of the Public Baths Committee. Coun. Towers engaged in a friendly swimming contest with the late Ald. Carless, whom he defeated in a match which caused considerable interest in the borough. Only eleven of those who were members of the Richmond Town Council in 1923 remain. Mr. Towers was head of the firm of Messrs. Lewis and Towers, of Dalston, N., the medicine bottle makers in London. During the Great War the firm made thousands of glass floats that were used for supporting marine nets in the Channel. Mr. Towers left Richmond to live at Blackheath several years ago, he leaves a widow, two daughters and a son.'
