Ayr Chemical Works
of Ayr
1835 Sale notice: 'CHEMICAL WORKS TO DE SOLD OR LET.
The Proprietor of the AYR CHEMICAL WORKS being about to retire from business, these Works are now offered to the public to be Sold or Let. They are situated within half a mile of the town and harbour of Ayr, and consist of two Leaden Chambers for making Vitriol, with necessary apparatus for concentrating it, and apparatus for making other Acids; of a Soda Work with a chimney 110 feet high; of apparatus for making Magnesia and Epsom Salts, and Soda Water; and lastly, for the manufacturing of Common Salt. The erections have all been made within these few years; part of them is upon a lease, which has nine years yet to run, but the most valuable part is upon a perpetual holding. There is considerable market in the surrounding country, and facilities of export. A Steam Engine has lately been erected for supplying the works with fresh water and sea water, and a Soap Work may be advantageously added to the existing soda Work. The Works will either be Sold or Let. in whole or in part, and every facility given to purchasers.
Application may be made personally or by letter, to John Kinross, Esq., Ayr; Robert Robertson, Esq., Writer there ; or at the Works.' [1]
