Dr. Clarkson was educated at the Grammar School, Beverley, E. Yorks, and at the University of Leeds where he was awarded an honours degree in Civil Engineering. He remained in the Engineering Department of the University to take part in research work on dynamic stresses in crane girders. For his part in this work he was awarded the degree of Ph.D. in 1953.

He is now engaged on research on the dynamic loading of aircraft structures with the De Havilland Aircraft Co., Ltd.
