Barker Brothers Silversmiths

of Unity Works, Constitution Hill, Birmingham and 292, High Holborn, London. 1801 Business established in Birmingham. The firm acquired the original Boulton & Watt dies during its early days of manufacturing.

1871 Barker Brothers, silversmiths in Paradise Street.[1]

1903 Moved to new factory premises, Unity Works, Constitution Hill, Birmingham,

1907 Became public company under the style Barker Brothers Silversmiths Ltd. The company was registered on 17 May to acquire the business of silversmiths of Messrs. Barker Brothers. [2]

1914 Speciality: electro-plate. [3]

1921 Acquired Levi and Salaman Ltd and its subsidiary Potosi Silver Co

1961 Silversmiths, manufacturing silver electro-plate goods of all descriptions. [4]

1960s Merged with Ellis and Co (Birmingham) Ltd. The name of the firm was changed to Barker Ellis Silver Co Ltd.

1979 the firm obtained a Federal registration in the USA for the trademarks Ellis & Co, Barker Ellis and Ellis Barker (the marks were cancelled in 1988).

1992 The company went into administration.
