1888 Auction notice: 'Barton Corn Mills, Barton, in the Township of Barton-upon- Irwell, near Manchester. MESSRS. WILLIAM WILSON & SON respectfully announce that they received instructions from the Manchester Ship Canal Company to SELL by AUCTION, on Thursday, the 12th day of April, 1888, commencing 12 o’clock. upon the premises, the whole of the valuable MACHINERY and EFFECTS comprised in the above mill, consisting of overshot water-wheel, 18ft. diameter, 15ft. wide, wrought-iron buckets, cast-iron shrouds, with heavy gearing and fixings; ditto 18ft. diameter, 8ft. wide; ditto heavy gearing connecting the two wheels and driving 12 pairs of stones and machinery throughout; wood and iron ploughs with gearing; 11 pairs of French burr stones, 4ft. 6in. diameter, on heavy cast-iron columns and framing, by R. Gordon and Co., pair of grey ditto, elevators and conveyor troughs, wood hoppers, combined grain separator and smutter by W. Houghton and Co., No. 124 (nearly new), wheat and other screens, several flour dressing machines, with brushes complete, combined bean splitter and oat crushing machine, fans with wood and iron hunks, cranes, large quantity of strapping, wood partitions, tools, and all other effeots—For catalogues and further particulars apply to the Auctioneers, 29, Fountain-street, Manchester.'[1]
