Barton and Unwin

1868 Millwright and engineer Mainprice Barton (1842-1908) established the Stour Valley Iron Works in Station Road. [1]

1881 Mainprice Barton was an Engineer Employing 18 Men & 5 Boys[2]

1883 Dissolution of the Partnership between Mainprice Barton and Walter Stearn, in Sudbury, in the county of Suffolk, as Engineers, Millwrights, and Agricultural Implement Makers, under the style or firm of Barton and Stearn. All debts will be received and paid by the said Mainprice Barton.[3].

1885 Barton and Unwin of Stour Valley Iron Works[4]

1886 Partnership dissolved[5] between Mainprice Barton, Alfred Joseph Unwin, and Thomas Unwin, in Sudbury, in the county of Suffolk, as Engineers, Millwrights, and Agricultural Implement Makers, under the style or firm of Barton and Unwins. The business would be carried on by the Mainprice Barton alone[6]

1892 Mainprice Barton and Co, of Station Road[7]

By 1905 was this business W. Barton and Company, Ltd or was the W a misprint for M?[8]

1908 After the death of Mainprice Barton, the business changed from agricultural engineering and boiler-making to propellers.[9][10]
