1856 Acquired by Samuel Hanson and Son, wholesale grocers
1863 New factory established at Ratcliff
1873 Claimed to be the largest jam maker in Britain
By 1880 Frederick Machin had assumed full control
1914 Claimed to be the oldest firm in the manufacturing of confectionery, peel-making, and jam-making trade
1920 Acquired by Crosse and Blackwell[2] [3]
1926 Although profitable, Crosse and Blackwell divested the firm under the control of Stanley Machin and Joseph Hetherington
1947 British Industries Fair Advert for 75 years of experience in making "Harlequin" Crackers. Also as makers of Wedding, Birthday and Christmas Cake decorations and Silver Dragées. 199 years in making "Silmos’s Lollies”. Also as makers of Chinese Figs, Jersey Caramels, Toffees and other Sugar Confectionery, "Guardian" Preserves. (Foodstuffs etc. Section - Earls Court, 1st Floor, Stand No. 734) [4]
1970 Sold to Needlers Ltd of Hull, a rival.
