1902 The company founded by Joseph C. Belden in Chicago, Illinois, making wire and importantly insulated wire using their own coating.

1910 Moved to larger premises in Chicago; added rubber insulated wire to its product line.

1927 Invented the soft rubber plug.

Opened larger wire mill in Richmond

WWII Supplied products for use in tanks, aircraft, mobile radios, submarines, ships, jeeps and a variety of other military machinery.

1980 Merged with Crouse-Hinds Company, a manufacturer of electrical products located in Syracuse, New York.

1981 Cooper Industries acquired the group.

1993 Belden became an independent publicly held entity again

Through acquisitions and organic growth, Belden's revenues grow from under $400 million in 1993 to more than $1.1 billion in 2000.

1999 Volex acquired the power cord business of Belden[1]
