Benjamin Huntsman (1820-1893)
Son of Francis Huntsman
Married Anna Maria Fitzmaurice (d.1897) and had four children and lived West Retford Hall.
1851 Living at West Retford Hall (age 31 born Attercliffe), Proprietor of land, houses and coal mine. With his wife Anna Maria (age 26 born Bamburgh) and daughter (aged one month). Also his mother-in-law Francese Maria Fiztmaurice (age 47). Plus six servants. [1]
1856 Benjamin Huntsman, rank of cornet, was appointed lieutenant in the West Yorkshire Regiment[2]
Owner of Tinsley Coal Co [3], Manor Colliery[4] and several other coal mines in the district. Locked out the miners and employed non-union staff during the strike of 1869/1870.
Alderman of the City of Nottingham.
1879 On the death of his father, Benjamin was in charge of the business B. Huntsman together with his eldest son[5], Francis Huntsman (1852-1910)[6].
1880 Indenture of Francis Huntsman of West Retford, presumably Benjamin's son as Benjamin was one of the signatories[7].
