Bertrand Guillaume Carcel

From Graces Guide

Bertrand Guillaume Carcel was a French watchmaker, born on 11 November 1750, died in Paris on 13 November 1812.

In 1800 Guillaume Carcel perfected his oil lamp which featured a pump powered by a clockwork motor, which ensured a constant supply of oil to the wick.

The Carcel lamp was tall, expensive and fragile.

His widow and son-in-law, M. Zier, continued the workshops and the shop at 8 rue de l'Arbre-Sec in Paris.

See Wikipedia entry.

Two 1810 Carcel lamps are on display in the Musée des Arts et Métiers (Inv. Nos. 14176 & 14425).
