Birmingham Compressed Air Power Co

From Graces Guide

The company was to provide a supply of compressed air to an area of Birmingham in Deritend, St Martins, St Bartholomew and Bordesley areas, an area of about 1.5 square miles from a central station. The initial plan was to provide 15,000 horse power to work compressors, generated from 6 triple expansion compound condenser beam engines, produced by John Fowler and Co of Leeds. This would then drive dynamos at factories and workshops to power electric lighting.

1886 Shares offered. Directors included Richard Hobbs Taunton and Henry Wright. Consulting Engineer was Henry Robinson. The engineer was John Sturgeon. [1]
