1897 'Capt John Caleb Bullen (1842-1897), part owner of the Bloomdale china clay works, was killed in an accident at the works.'[1]

'The Sett extends OVER 60 ACRES and includes ample tipping ground It comprises the wellknown Pit, which for many years has produced some of the finest clays raised in the District Included in the Sett are all the machinery, plant, tramways, settling pits, tanks, micas and two China Clay Dries, together capable drying about 15,000 tons of clay year, and each with easy access to public road, giving cheap and quick transport to Rail or Seaport.'[2]
