The following yards used a series of yard numbers (yn) running on from 1 to 395.
Dates are shown for the range in which we have ship completions
- Floating Dock Co 1861-1871, yn 1-22
- Hodgson and Soulsby 1878-1883, yn 24-47
- Blyth Ship Building Co 1883-1899, yn 44-99
- Blyth Ship Building and Dry Docks Co 1900-1925, yn 100-234
- Cowpen Dry Docks and Shipbuilding Co 1926-1930, yn 235-248
- Blyth Dry Docks and Ship Building Co 1934-1967, yn 249-395. Note the ‘reversal’ of title when the company was re-born in the 1930’s.
The dry docks were later occupied by Gregson and Co 1970-1974, their final vessel the stern trawler PRINCESS ANNE being completed on the Tyne after Gregson’s liquidation.
There is a further Blyth builder, Union Co-operative Shipbuilding Society, based at Hodgson’s Mill and in period 1870-1902 building 25 vessels.
