Boughton Water Tower, Chester

From Graces Guide

Engineer: F L Bateman, consultant engineer to the Chester Waterworks Company.

Tower raised 1884.

See Historic England entry

Several sources give the construction date as 1851-3. However advertisements for tenders for the iron tank were not placed by Bateman until 1854 [1]

The tower is adajcent to the towpath of the Shropshire Union Canal, just east of Hoole Lane Lock. The 1875 O.S. town plan shows that adjacent to the tower were six filter beds, one covered reservoir, and one open reservoir.
