1938 The Atlas-Union Shoe Co was founded by Arthur Atlas who had previously been involved in large-scale footwear manufacture in Vienna. The manufacturing was carried out by J. A. Sabin Ltd of Leicester.
1942 Brevitt Shoes Ltd was formed as wholesalers and distributors of shoes. Attol Ltd was formed as a business making heels, shoe components and maintenance of the group's factories.
1947 Atlas Investment Co Ltd was incorporated and acquired Atlas-Union Shoe Co, J. A. Sabin, Attol and Brevitt Shoes.

1949 Brevitt Ltd was incorporated as a private company and soon afterwards incorporated as a public company; the company owned Atlas Investment Co Ltd[2]
1949 Investment Registry placed all of the preference shares and 25 percent of the ordinary shares on the market[3]
