A group of collieries between Manchester and Bolton[1]

1761 The Duke of Bridgewater commissioned the Bridgewater Canal to carry coal from his mine at Worsley to Manchester.

1803 Formation of the Bridgewater Trust to keep the various pits together as one unit after the death of the Duke.

By 1911 there were 13 collieries in the group
