1961.

1928 Company incorporated for purposes of establishing a chain of stores[1]

1928 A large interest in the company was acquired by the Neisner store chain of USA in preparation for building a similar chain in Britain.[2]

1932 Converted into a public company

1933 Had a total of 15 stores dealing in a wide range of goods

1934 By the end of the year had 37 stores with plans to open another 10-12 in the coming year[3]

1937 Having expanded to 52 stores, the company took a pause in openings to consolidate the group[4]

1945 Acquired Hills and Steele and consolidated merchandise ranges across the 2 chains[5]

1951 The assets of the subsidiaries Hills and Steele and Green Shops were transferred to the main group to avoid having to report consolidate accounts[6]

1954 Opened the first phase of the Sheffield store

1955 In the past year construction of new stores had started in a number of cities including Cardiff and Plymouth; the rebuilt stores in Swansea and Bedminster would be open in the coming year.[7]

1986 Acquired by Habitat Mothercare; the combined group was renamed Storehouse
