1921 Honorary Secretary: Alfred Wood; first chairman and president: Sir Beville Stanier. The Society's aim was to build an experimental sugar beet processing plant, funded by Government and the general public. This was realised in form of the Kelham Beet Sugar Beet Factory owned by Home Grown Sugar Ltd.
