Burco Dean

1955 Burco Ltd merged with W. H. Dean and Son, also of Burnley, makers of gas-fired domestic appliances, forming Burco Dean Ltd[1]

1961 Electrical and mechanical engineers, manufacturing electrical household appliances. 1,000 employees. [2]

By 1968 Subsidiaries also included[3]:

  • Thomas Ashworth and Co, zinc and aluminium diecasters, makers of "Speedy" moisture tester and "Taco" textile beams and flanges
  • Thomas Eastham and Son, makers of kitchen equipment
  • Bullsmoor Garages Ltd and Bullsmoor Car Hire Ltd

1970 Acquired Hague and McKenzie Ltd.[4]

1972 Tried to acquire Sidney Flavel[5] but eventually that company was acquired by others.

1981 Formed a joint venture with Glen Dimplex to market certain domestic appliances.

1985 The domestic appliance part of Burco Dean was sold to Glen Dimplex.[6]

1982 Re-registered as Burco Dean Plc

1985 Re-registered as Sycamore Holdings Plc
