Charles Henry Woodfield (c1872-1948)
1949 Obituary [1]
"CHARLES HENRY WOODFIELD, whose death occurred in his seventy-sixth year on 10th October 1948, was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1912 and was transferred to Membership in 1914. He will be remembered for his special services in connection with the Benevolent Fund and for the keen interest he took in the informal meetings of the Institution.
He received his technical education at the Newport, Mon, School of Art and Technology, and served a seven years' apprenticeship at the engineering works of Messrs. J. J. Cardis and Company, Ltd. He then secured an appointment as works manager to Messrs. Howard Hyle and Company, of Cardiff, and subsequently took charge of the drawing office. He was responsible for the design and erection of large winding engines for important collieries. He relinquished this post four years later and joined Messrs. Henry Sykes and Company, Ltd., general engineers, London, for whom he acted in the same capacity until nine years later he became manager and director.
Finally he went into business on his own account and established the firm of the Woodfield Hoisting and Manufacturing Company, Ltd., London. He disposed of this business some two years before his death, but retained an active interest in the firm until the end of his career."
